medicine, biomedical research and analytical biochemistry and chemistry. <br \/>They are distinguished by their ability to bind selectively and strongly to specific targets, be they proteins, small chemical compounds or even cells.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Aptamer design begins in the Novaptech laboratory, where researchers use a process called SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential enrichment) to isolate aptamers with a particularly high affinity for the desired target. This is a complex, multi-step process:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">1. <strong>In vitro selection<\/strong> : The selection process begins with a random library of oligonucleotides (DNA or RNA oligomers) containing billions of different sequences. These sequences are exposed to the target one wishes to detect or target. The aptamers that bind to the target are then recovered.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 <br \/>2. <strong>Amplification<\/strong> : The sequences that bound to the target are amplified by PCR (polymerase chain reaction) to produce a larger quantity of candidates.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><br \/>3. <strong>Repeating the process<\/strong> : This selection cycle is repeated several times to improve the affinity and specificity of the candidates towards the target.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 <br \/>4.<strong> Validation<\/strong> : The final candidates obtained are then tested to confirm their ability to bind specifically to the target. Oligonucleotides that meet the specificity and affinity criteria are aptamers.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 <br \/>This in vitro selection process enables researchers at Novaptech to generate tailor-made aptamers for virtually any target.
