Novaptech contributes to innovative One Health projects. We develop aptamers for detecting biomarkers and pathogens of interest for both human and animal health. We also collaborate to the engineering of aptamer-based devices for the purification of bioproducts for the pharma industry.
Aptamers were selected or are being selected against:
The He-Farm project aims to revolutionize the detection of animal viruses in agricultural environments by developing an innovative portable testing device. This cutting-edge equipment is designed to enhance the surveillance and management of viral diseases, thereby contributing significantly to animal health and food safety.
Targeting farmers, veterinarians, health surveillance organizations, and animal health researchers, He-Farm offers a lightweight and easy-to-carry solution that enables rapid on-site testing. The device utilizes advanced technology, specifically DNA aptamers, to provide precise and reliable detection of viruses in the air.
One of the key advantages of He-Farm is its ability to quickly detect the presence of viruses, allowing for swift intervention to prevent the spread of diseases. This not only reduces the time and costs associated with traditional laboratory tests but also enhances the overall health safety of agricultural farms and food products.
Novaptech has selected specific aptamers for the hemagglutinin and the neuraminidase of the avian influenza virus (see page “Products”). We are now integrating these aptamers into portable fluorimetric biosensors. This integration phase is crucial for use in real-world conditions.
Looking ahead, the next steps involve field testing and validating the performance of the device. These trials will be instrumental in fine-tuning the technology and preparing it for widespread use in the agricultural sector.

The Cure4Aqua project aims to enhance the monitoring of fish immune status and the detection of pathogenic agents in aquaculture by developing innovative aptamer-based tools. This groundbreaking initiative is set to revolutionize the way fish health is managed, ensuring better outcomes for both fish welfare and aquaculture productivity.
Targeting aquaculture farmers, veterinarians, and researchers in fish health, Cure4Aqua offers a novel approach to monitoring and detection. The project leverages the power of aptamers and will be integrated into user-friendly and cost-effective biosensor devices, making them ideal for field use.
One of the key achievements of the project so far is the development of aptamers against trout cathelicidins by Novaptech. Cathelicidins are crucial antimicrobial peptides involved in the innate immune response of fish. By targeting these molecules, Cure4Aqua can provide valuable insights into the immune status of fish, enabling early detection of potential health issues.
In addition to monitoring immune status, the project is also focused on detecting the presence of pathogenic agents. The selection of aptamers specific to bacteria of interest in aquaculture is currently underway. These aptamers will be designed to recognize pathogens for fishes, allowing for rapid and accurate detection of infections.
The next phase of the project involves integrating these aptamers into biosensor devices. These devices will be simple to use and cost-effective, making them accessible to a wide range of users in the aquaculture industry. Field testing and validation of these devices will ensure their reliability and effectiveness in real-world conditions.

The 2D-BioPad project is dedicated to advancing the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease through the development of innovative aptamer-based tools. By generating aptamers against specific biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease and integrating them into cutting-edge biosensors, this project aims to provide clinicians with a simple, rapid, and cost-effective diagnostic tool.
Targeting clinicians, researchers, and healthcare providers, 2D-BioPad offers a novel approach to Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. The project focuses on generating aptamers that will be grafted onto nanoparticles and included in biosensor involving for example a graphene film, ensuring high sensitivity and accuracy.
One of the key achievements of the project so far is the identification of five biomarkers associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Novaptech has successfully selected aptamers against two of these biomarkers: GFAP (Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein) and NFL (Neurofilament Light Chain) (see page “Products”). These aptamers are characterized by a high affinity in the nanomolar range, ensuring precise and reliable detection.
Furthermore, one of the aptamers has been optimized and is only about twenty nucleotides long, making it highly efficient and easy to integrate into the biosensor. These aptamers have been transferred to our partners at 2D-BioPad for the design of aptasensors, which will be simple to use and cost-effective, ideal for clinical settings.
Novaptech continues to develop aptamers against other relevant biomarkers, expanding the scope and effectiveness of the 2D-BioPad diagnostic tool. The integration of these aptamers into a biosensor is a crucial step in providing clinicians with a powerful tool for early detection and management of Alzheimer’s disease.
